Alex Mathenge Quits Social Media After Sobriety Journey
Kenyan content creator Alex Mathenge has announced his permanent departure from social media, stating he has decided to quit while in his best mental capacity after a challenging journey that included a 20-month sobriety period.
In a heartfelt message, Mathenge revealed that three years ago, he faced numerous challenges that forced him to take a break from content creation, leading to the closure of his studio and the sale of his equipment. He described losing his gigs, home, and relationships, which culminated in a struggle with depression. Tragically, he also lost his father in 2024, who he regarded as his strongest supporter during his lowest moments.
Mathenge is known for his engaging content across various platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube, where he has built a substantial following over the years. His decision to exit the digital space has garnered attention, highlighting the pressures faced by content creators in the ever-demanding online environment.
This move reflects a growing trend among influencers who are opting out of the digital spotlight due to the psychological toll of the creator economy. Mathenge's decision to sell his social media accounts for a minimum price of KSh 500,000 underscores his desire for a more traditional job and a break from the pressures of being a public figure. According to Streamline Feed, he expressed a wish for anonymity and a structured life away from the digital limelight.
