Armed Robbery Strikes Ruaka Salon Amid Rising Insecurity
CCTV footage has captured a terrifying armed robbery in Ruaka, where a masked gunman reportedly held customers and staff at gunpoint inside a salon before fleeing with valuables on a waiting motorbike. The incident occurred in broad daylight, leaving residents shaken and concerned about their safety.
This robbery comes just days after another alarming incident where armed suspects stormed Chaiiwali Restaurant along General Mathenge Road in Westlands, Nairobi. During that incident, the assailants, two of whom posed as customers, drew pistols and demanded valuables from patrons, stealing seven mobile phones and one laptop. They fired shots into the air before escaping towards the Parklands area, raising serious concerns over security in Nairobi's high-end neighborhoods.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched an investigation into both incidents, analyzing CCTV footage and forensic evidence to identify the suspects. This recent spate of armed robberies has heightened fears among residents and business owners in Nairobi, particularly in affluent areas like Westlands, which have seen an increase in similar crimes in recent months.
Public discourse around security in Nairobi has intensified, with many calling for increased police presence and community vigilance. The recent robberies have sparked discussions on the effectiveness of security measures in place, especially in busy commercial areas where patrons expect a safe environment.
