Bien Responds to Backlash Over Uganda Music Comments
Kenyan singer Bien Baraza has addressed the backlash he received regarding comments he made about Uganda's music industry, asserting that his remarks were taken out of context.
Bien clarified that he never intended to imply that Ugandan artists are only comfortable serving their local market. He accused some blogs of misrepresenting his comments by sharing only selective excerpts from a longer conversation. 'I urge people to watch the full interview instead of relying on short clips,' he stated, emphasizing that the viral snippets did not accurately reflect his views.
Bien is a prominent member of the Kenyan musical group Sauti Sol, known for their contributions to the Afro-pop genre and their collaborations with various artists across East Africa. Recently, he survived a serious car accident on September 15, 2023, without injuries, which drew significant public attention.
The conversation about Uganda's music industry comes at a time when regional music scenes are increasingly interconnected, with artists from Kenya and Uganda frequently collaborating. Bien highlighted his long-standing relationships with Ugandan musicians, noting that he toured Europe with Joshua Baraka before collaborating with any Kenyan artist. This history showcases the mutual respect and artistic exchange between the two countries.
