Boniface Mwangi Launches Fundraiser on 43rd Birthday

Human rights activist Boniface Mwangi has marked his 43rd birthday by launching a public fundraiser aimed at supporting the next chapter of his ongoing fight for a better Kenya.

Reflecting on his journey, Mwangi stated, 'I have endured countless beatings, arrests, torture, being shot, and persistent online attacks, but I believe the sacrifices have not been in vain.'

Boniface Mwangi, born on July 10, 1983, is a prominent Kenyan photojournalist, politician, and human rights activist known for his outspoken stance against government corruption and human rights abuses. He has gained national recognition for his activism, particularly in advocating for the rights of marginalized communities and holding the government accountable.

Recently, Mwangi has been in the spotlight due to his candidacy for the 2027 presidential election, where he aims to challenge the entrenched political class in Kenya. His activism has not come without consequences; in July 2025, he was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of ammunition during anti-government protests, and in May 2025, he and fellow activist Agather Atuhaire were detained in Tanzania, alleging torture during their detention. These incidents underscore the risks he faces in his pursuit of justice and reform.

As Mwangi continues to rally support for his cause, he has highlighted ongoing public grievances that remain unresolved, such as the high cost of living and poor governance, which have fueled protests among the youth in Kenya. His fundraiser seeks to mobilize resources to amplify his advocacy efforts as he prepares for the upcoming election.
