Daniel Adongo Deported Back to Kenya After Visa Issues

Former Indianapolis Colts linebacker Daniel Adongo has been deported back to Kenya by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after overstaying his visa following the end of his NFL career.

Adongo, who was the first Kenyan to play in the NFL, signed with the Colts in 2013 and played until 2015. He had multiple run-ins with the law over the past decade, including a 2020 conviction for criminal mischief. According to ICE, an immigration judge ordered his removal in March 2026, leading to his deportation in June 2026.

Born in Nairobi in 1989, Adongo made history by becoming the first Kenyan to play in the NFL, appearing in five games primarily on special teams during his brief career. His journey in American football was marked by challenges, including legal troubles after his NFL tenure, which began when his visa expired in 2016.

The situation has raised concerns from Adongo's family and attorney regarding his mental health and potential brain injuries linked to his football career. Over the years, he faced several arrests in Indiana for offenses such as felony intimidation and battery, which have contributed to a troubled public image.

This case highlights the complexities surrounding immigration laws and the challenges faced by athletes transitioning from sports to civilian life. Adongo's story serves as a reminder of the potential consequences of overstaying a visa and the impact of mental health issues on former athletes.
