Esther Kazungu Accuses Tandem Agency of Non-Payment
Kenyan content creator Esther Kazungu has publicly accused Tandem Agency of refusing to pay her for work completed five years ago, leading to a court case.
Kazungu, who signed a three-month contract worth KES 200,000 per month to create content for Sky Girls Kenya, claimed that after her work was delivered, the agency withheld payment, arguing that her content did not go viral. She expressed her disappointment, particularly given Sky Girls Kenya's mission to empower young girls, stating, 'I was surprised an organization claiming to uplift girls was screwing me over.'
Esther Kazungu is known for her engaging content aimed at young audiences and has built a following through her work across various platforms. Her collaboration with Sky Girls Kenya was intended to support the organization's initiative to mentor and uplift young teen girls in Kenya.
The situation has drawn attention not just because of the alleged non-payment, but also due to the ownership of Tandem Agency and Sky Girls Kenya by Svetlana Polikarpova, the wife of former Kenyan rugby player Dennis Ombachi. Kazungu mentioned that she hesitated to come forward earlier due to fears of being labeled as difficult to work with, which reflects broader concerns in the creative industry about the power dynamics between content creators and agencies.
