Father Appeals for Help After Wife Leaves for Saudi Arabia

A father from Kitengela, Nairobi County, has made an emotional appeal to the Kenyan government for assistance after his wife left for Saudi Arabia without informing him, leaving him to care for their three children alone.

Benerd Ongaki, the father in question, revealed that he dropped his wife off at her workplace on June 18, 2026, only to later discover that she had traveled to Saudi Arabia through a recruitment agency without his knowledge. He expressed his deep concern for her safety, citing alarming reports of abuse and exploitation faced by Kenyan workers in Saudi Arabia.

Ongaki is now solely responsible for raising their three young children, a situation that has proven to be both emotionally and financially overwhelming. He stated that he is struggling to provide for the family’s basic needs without a stable source of income and fears he can no longer cope on his own.

This case highlights the broader issue of labor migration from Kenya, particularly to Gulf countries, where many workers face significant risks. Reports of mistreatment and exploitation of Kenyan workers abroad have raised concerns among families and advocacy groups, prompting calls for better regulations and support systems for those who migrate for work.
