Geoffrey Mosiria Calls for Ban on Summertides Event

Geoffrey Mosiria, the Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, has called for the complete ban of the Summertides event in Kenya, alleging that it promotes immoral behavior and public indecency.

In a statement shared on social media, Mosiria expressed concern over how young people could engage in immoral acts in public spaces without facing condemnation. He argued that such events reflect a moral decline in society, stating, 'We have a responsibility to protect children, uphold public decency, and promote values that safeguard the health, dignity, and future of young people.'

Geoffrey Mosiria is known for his active role in advocating for community welfare and public service in Nairobi. He has previously been involved in various initiatives aimed at protecting vulnerable groups, including efforts to combat child marriage, which have garnered public attention and support.

The Summertides festival, which took place in Malindi from July 2 to 4, 2026, attracted a large number of attendees, leading to overcrowding issues where some revellers were reported to have slept on the beach due to accommodation shortages according to reports. This event has sparked discussions about public decency and the responsibilities of event organizers in ensuring a safe environment for all attendees, particularly young people.
