Joe Muchiri Criticizes Influencers Over UDA Bribery Claims
Joe Muchiri, a prominent Kenyan politician, has publicly criticized influencers who are allegedly being bribed to support the United Democratic Alliance (UDA). He cautioned those who have not yet been approached to ensure they do not sell their influence cheaply, suggesting that if UDA wants to 'buy' their support, they should demand at least KSh25 million.
Muchiri's comments highlight ongoing concerns about the integrity of political endorsements in Kenya. He pointed to the country's financial situation, emphasizing that the funds being offered should reflect the taxpayers' contributions and the nation's borrowed money.
Joe Muchiri is best known for his tenure as the Member of Parliament for Manyatta Constituency in Embu County during the 11th Parliament. His political career has been marked by various controversies, including being summoned in April 2022 along with other UDA members over the burning of ballot boxes in Embu, a significant incident that raised questions about electoral integrity in the region, according to The Star.
The UDA, which is associated with President William Ruto, has faced scrutiny over its campaign practices, particularly regarding allegations of bribery. In July 2026, UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar admitted that campaign items distributed during the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election were part of election activities, urging residents to keep the gifts despite the party's defeat, as reported by Capital FM. This admission has further fueled discussions about the ethical implications of political funding and endorsements in Kenya.
