Kevin Kiarie Ruhiu Announces Political Ambitions for Roysambu

Kenyan freestyle skater Kevin Kiarie Ruhiu has declared his intention to run for the Roysambu parliamentary seat in the upcoming August 2027 General Election, representing the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP).

In a statement shared on social media, Ruhiu emphasized his commitment to serving the people of Roysambu, highlighting the constituency's untapped potential in business, education, infrastructure, and healthcare. He stated, 'I want to serve all residents without discrimination,' and pledged to advocate for young people and fellow athletes, focusing on protecting their dreams and addressing systemic challenges that limit their opportunities.

Kevin Kiarie Ruhiu is known for his achievements in freestyle skating and has recently gained public attention not only for his sports career but also for his advocacy for better support for athletes in Kenya. His political aspirations come on the heels of public disputes with the Ministry of Sports regarding the lack of support he faced while preparing for international competitions, including the 2026 World Skate Games in Paraguay, which he missed due to alleged insufficient assistance.

Ruhiu's announcement adds to a competitive landscape for the Roysambu parliamentary seat, where he will face off against notable figures including incumbent MP Augustine Kamande Kamau of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), former MP Isaac Waihenya Ndirangu of the DCP, and nominated MP Sabina Chege of the Jubilee Party. The Roysambu Constituency, located in Nairobi County, has a population of approximately 153,772 registered voters as of 2022, making it a significant battleground in the upcoming elections.
