Martha Karua Remembers Raila Odinga Ahead of Memorial Service

Martha Karua has arrived in Kisumu ahead of the memorial service for the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, describing him as her 'dear brother and friend.'

Reflecting on the occasion, Karua expressed her disbelief that a year has already passed since Raila's death, as family, friends, political allies, and Kenyans prepare to honor his life. 'Today we gather to remember a life that touched so many and a legacy that remains deeply woven into our nation’s history,' she stated.

Martha Karua is the leader of Narc Kenya and a prominent figure in Kenyan politics, known for her advocacy on women's rights and her role as a former Deputy Chief Justice. She has been a strong ally of Raila Odinga, who was a significant political figure in Kenya, serving as Prime Minister and leading the opposition for many years.

The Raila Odinga Memorial Anniversary Committee has organized a three-day program from October 13 to 15, 2026, to commemorate his first death anniversary. The program includes an intergenerational dialogue in Kisumu, a candle-lighting ceremony at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi in Bondo, and a main memorial gathering at Migwena Cultural Grounds in Bondo. These events aim to celebrate Raila Odinga's public service and encourage unity, reflection, and service to others, highlighting his lasting impact on Kenyan society.
