Oga Obinna Clarifies Political Support Stance
Kenyan comedian Oga Obinna has stated that he will support political factions based on his interests, emphasizing that his appearances at rallies are purely professional.
In a recent Telegram post, Obinna noted that attendees should not misinterpret his presence at events for Linda Mwananchi, DCP, KANU, UDA, or Linda Ground as a personal political alignment. He quipped that he will not charge politicians Babu Owino or Millicent Omanga for his services, indicating a shift in his approach to political endorsements.
Oga Obinna, born Steve Thompson Maghana on June 6, 1990, is a prominent figure in the Kenyan entertainment scene, known for his work as a comedian, actor, musician, and digital content creator. His recent comments come after a viral video of him pushing President William Ruto in a wheelbarrow, a symbol associated with Ruto's political messaging during the 2022 elections, drew renewed attention.
The current political landscape in Kenya is characterized by a complex interplay of alliances and rivalries, especially with the upcoming elections. Obinna's remarks come at a time when many public figures are navigating their political affiliations carefully, often influenced by the shifting dynamics within parties like KANU and UDA. His decision to seek compensation for his support reflects a broader trend among entertainers who are increasingly aware of their value in political campaigns.
