Parroty Vunulu Critiques YY, Butita, and Mwakideu's Praise for Ruto
Comedian Parroty Vunulu has publicly criticized fellow comedians YY and Eddie Butita, along with media personality Alex Mwakideu, for their recent praise of government development projects under President William Ruto's administration.
Vunulu argues that while it is acceptable to acknowledge development projects, such recognition should not overshadow pressing issues like the loss of young lives and human rights violations occurring during Ruto's term. He questions the value of infrastructure and other projects if they come at the cost of lives, emphasizing that life should take precedence over development.
YY, Butita, and Mwakideu are well-known figures in the Kenyan entertainment scene. YY is celebrated for his stand-up comedy and has a significant following on social media, while Eddie Butita has gained notoriety for his comedic talent and acting roles. Alex Mwakideu, a popular media personality, is known for his work in radio and television, often engaging with current affairs and entertainment.
The criticism from Vunulu follows remarks made by Mumias East MP Peter Salasya, who also condemned the trio for presenting a one-sided view of the government's performance by focusing solely on positive aspects. Salasya highlighted the importance of addressing the ongoing issues of youth deaths and human rights abuses, suggesting that ignoring these matters does a disservice to the public discourse surrounding the administration's effectiveness. In a related incident, Butita claimed that he had been offered Ksh 100 million to endorse a politician ahead of the 2027 General Election, which he declined to maintain his integrity, further complicating the narrative around political endorsements in the entertainment industry.
Moreover, Mwakideu has been dealing with personal challenges, including mild to moderate sensorineural hearing loss, which he has been managing with hearing aids. This condition has affected both his personal and professional life, adding another layer to the public's perception of him as he navigates these challenges while remaining active in the entertainment industry.
