Peter Salasya Declares Eugene Wamalwa as Western Kenya Leader
Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has publicly declared that Eugene Wamalwa continues to be the leading opposition figure in Western Kenya. Salasya urged fellow politicians Edwin Sifuna and George Natembeya to support Wamalwa's leadership instead of fostering divisions within the region.
Salasya criticized Sifuna for attempting to retain his position as ODM Secretary-General despite being removed by the party's National Executive Committee, stating that such a loss does not qualify Sifuna as a regional leader. He emphasized that true leadership is shown through unwavering support rather than political convenience, referencing his own experiences of lacking support from Sifuna during his disagreements with ODM.
Eugene Wamalwa, a prominent figure in Kenyan politics, has served as the Cabinet Secretary for Devolution and Planning and is known for his role in various political coalitions. His leadership in Western Kenya has been characterized by efforts to unify the region's political landscape, particularly in the face of opposition from figures like Sifuna and Natembeya, who are also key players in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
The current political climate in Western Kenya is marked by tensions within ODM, especially following Sifuna's controversial removal from the Secretary-General position. Salasya has not only criticized Sifuna but has also cautioned other ODM members, such as Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, to be vigilant in their dealings with Sifuna, suggesting that there are underlying divisions that could impact the party's unity ahead of the 2027 elections. Additionally, Salasya has alleged that Sifuna's movement, 'Linda Mwananchi,' is covertly supported by President William Ruto, aiming to confuse voters in the upcoming elections.
