Prison Visit Turns Into Security Incident at Ruai Police Station
An ordinary prison visit at Ruai Police Station escalated into a significant security incident when officers discovered tools hidden inside a plate of rice and meat intended for three remanded suspects. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) reported that Christine Njoki Gitau, 18, was arrested after attempting to smuggle escape tools concealed beneath the meal.
According to the DCI, Gitau arrived at the station expressing a desire to visit her friends—Emmanuel Bosire, Ismael Arisa, and Brian Gatheru—who are facing serious charges of robbery with violence and gang rape. A routine inspection of the food raised suspicion, leading to the discovery of a pair of pliers and a shear that were likely meant to assist the suspects in escaping custody.
Emmanuel Bosire, Ismael Arisa, and Brian Gatheru have been in the spotlight due to the gravity of their charges. They allegedly operated an anonymous TikTok account to lure young women into meetings, where they would then assault and rob them. This has raised significant concerns about online safety and the dangers of social media in Kenya, particularly for young women.
The DCI has issued a stern warning regarding attempts to aid or facilitate escapes from lawful custody, emphasizing that such actions are serious criminal offenses that will be met with the full force of the law. This incident highlights ongoing issues within the Kenyan justice system, particularly concerning the safety and security of individuals in custody.
