Ryanair's Language Test for South African Passengers Sparks Outrage

Ryanair has recently come under fire for implementing a controversial policy requiring South African passengers to prove their nationality by taking a language test.

This move has raised eyebrows and sparked a debate about the airline's treatment of passengers. Critics argue that such a requirement is discriminatory and unnecessary, particularly as it targets a specific nationality. The airline's decision comes amid a backdrop of increasing scrutiny regarding its customer service practices.

Ryanair, known for its budget airline model, has been in the news for various reasons, including its chief executive Michael O’Leary's recent calls for a two-drink limit at airports to combat rising disorder on flights. O’Leary has been a polarizing figure, often making headlines for his blunt remarks and controversial policies.

The airline has been facing challenges on multiple fronts, including a recent €256 million fine imposed by Italy’s competition watchdog for abusing its dominant position in the market. Additionally, Ryanair has canceled over 170 flights recently due to a French air traffic control strike, affecting more than 30,000 passengers. As passenger numbers are forecasted to surge, with a projected increase of almost 208 million this year, the airline is also considering raising fares by up to 9% due to strong demand, according to Capital FM.
