Sir Wicknell Chivayo Shares Memorable Moment With Ruto
Zimbabwean businessman Sir Wicknell Chivayo recently recounted a unique experience during his visit to Kenya, where he claimed President William Ruto personally drove him to a helipad after attending the engagement celebration of Ruto’s daughter, Charlene.
Chivayo described the moment as 'priceless', stating that Ruto drove him approximately three kilometres to the helipad, with Chivayo sitting in the front passenger seat while his wife occupied the back. He praised the Kenyan President for his humility and kindness, reflecting on how this unexpected ride became one of the most memorable moments of his life.
Sir Wicknell Chivayo is known for his significant business ventures in Zimbabwe, particularly in the energy sector. His wealth is often highlighted by his luxurious lifestyle, including his Gulfstream G550 private jet, valued at around US$34 million, which he used to travel to Nairobi for this visit. However, Chivayo has also been a controversial figure due to past convictions for fraud and money laundering in Zimbabwe, which have sparked public debate regarding his interactions with high-profile leaders like Ruto.
President William Ruto, who has been in office since September 2022, has made headlines for his efforts to engage with various business leaders and promote investment in Kenya. His administration has faced challenges, including economic issues and public scrutiny over his leadership style. Ruto's willingness to engage with foreign businessmen like Chivayo reflects his approach to fostering international relations, despite the controversies surrounding some of these figures.
