Wicknell Chivayo and Lucy Muteke Laid to Rest
Wicknell Chivayo and his wife, Lucy Muteke, were laid to rest today at Sahwira Glen Forest Memorial Park in Harare following their tragic deaths in a helicopter crash.
The couple's burial took place in a lavish ceremony, with Chivayo reportedly being interred in a Rolls-Royce-inspired casket valued at approximately USD 217,000 (about KSh 27 million). Their deaths have prompted reflections on the unpredictability of life, as they were prominent figures in Zimbabwean society.
Wicknell Chivayo was a well-known businessman in Zimbabwe, recognized for his close ties to President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his extravagant lifestyle. He was involved in various business ventures and community projects, often associated with the ruling ZANU-PF party. Lucy Muteke, his wife, was also a key figure in their community.
The couple tragically died on September 30, 2026, when their helicopter, a Bell 430, crashed near Marondera, Zimbabwe, killing all six people on board. The crash has raised questions about aviation safety in the region, and due to the extensive damage from the fire, the family chose not to have a public viewing of the bodies before the funeral, as reported by TV47.
The funeral service commenced on October 7, 2026, with the couple's coffins draped in the national flag, signifying their contributions to the nation. Their burial today marks a significant moment for their family and the community, as many mourn the loss of two influential figures.
