Zaheer Jhanda Sparks Debate Over SUV Purchases for Campaign
Nyaribari Chache MP Zaheer Jhanda has ignited an online debate after reportedly purchasing three Toyota Land Cruiser J250 SUVs ahead of his re-election campaign for 2027. The vehicles are intended to assist him in navigating the constituency's notoriously poor road network during his campaign activities.
The SUVs were unveiled in Runda, Kiambu Road, each adorned with large red ribbons and bows. Jhanda stated that these vehicles would be essential for his political campaigns, especially during the rainy season when the roads in Kisii are particularly challenging, according to Tuko.
Zaheer Jhanda is a prominent figure in Kenyan politics, serving as the Member of Parliament for Nyaribari Chache. He is known for his active engagement in local issues and has been a member of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party. His recent activities have included addressing supporters in Keumbu, where he expressed confidence in his leadership despite facing scrutiny.
The purchase of these SUVs has drawn criticism from some Kenyans who find it ironic that Jhanda is investing in luxury vehicles while the roads in his constituency remain in poor condition. This criticism comes in the wake of his recent summons by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) regarding a violent incident involving a convoy, highlighting the challenges he faces as an MP.
Jhanda's tenure as MP has been marked by both support and controversy, as he navigates the complexities of local governance and public expectations. As the 2027 elections approach, the scrutiny of his actions, including this recent vehicle purchase, is likely to intensify, reflecting the broader conversation about accountability and infrastructure in Kenyan politics.
