Edgar Obare Wins Blogger of the Year at the 2020 NRG Fan Fave Awards
Edgar Obare has been named Blogger of the Year at the 2020 NRG Fan Fave Awards, NRG Radio Kenya announced on Friday, October 2, 2020.
“Congratulations @edgarobare. The NRG Fan Fave Blogger Of The Year 2020,” the station posted on X under the #NRGFanFaveAwards hashtag, tagging its partner Kenyan Originals.
A fan-voted award
NRG Radio launched the Fan Fave Awards in July 2020 to celebrate Kenyan musicians and other young talents making an impact on the creative scene. Categories ran from artists, songs and DJs to TV stars, YouTubers and digital content creators, and public voting opened on the station’s website on July 24, 2020, Kenyans.co.ke reported.
The blogger category drew a strong shortlist. Edgar was nominated alongside Bikozulu, Kahawa Tungu, Kaluhi’s Kitchen, Mkamburi, Nancie Mwai, Techweez, This Is Ess, Victor Matara and Xtian Dela, according to the published list of nominees.
The year BNN broke through
The award caps a breakout year. Edgar completed a master’s degree in Computer Science at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano in Italy in 2019, then returned to Kenya and launched Edgar Obare BNN, the Bandana News Network, on YouTube. His celebrity exposés quickly made him one of the most talked-about names online, Pulse noted.
