IEBC Announces Temporary Disruption of Online Voter Services
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced a temporary disruption of its online voter services due to a routine upgrade of its ICT systems.
In a public notice issued on July 7, 2026, the Commission stated that the upgrade aims to enhance the reliability, security, and performance of its digital services. As a result, public voter search services on the online verification portal, as well as voter transfer and change of particulars services, will be temporarily unavailable. The IEBC assured the public that the maintenance exercise is temporary and will notify once the services are restored according to The Star.
The IEBC, established under the Constitution of Kenya, is responsible for overseeing the electoral process in the country, including voter registration and conducting elections. The commission has been in the spotlight recently due to the upcoming general elections, with public discussions focusing on the integrity and efficiency of its systems.
This upgrade comes amidst ongoing efforts to improve the electoral process in Kenya, especially following past criticisms regarding the transparency and accessibility of voter services. Physical voter registration services remain unaffected and continue at IEBC's 290 constituency offices, Huduma Centres, and the Customer Experience Centre at Anniversary Towers in Nairobi according to Kenyans.co.ke.
