Okoth Obado and Co-Convicts Transferred to Remand Prison
Former Migori Governor Okoth Obado, along with his co-convicts Michael Oyamo and Caspal Obiero, have been transferred from Milimani Law Courts to Industrial Area Remand Prison following their conviction in the 2018 murder of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno.
The High Court, presided over by Justice Cecilia Githua, found the trio guilty, establishing a complete chain of circumstantial evidence linking them to the crime. The court determined that Obado financed the execution of the murder, Oyamo played a key role in its execution, and Obiero was involved in concealing the offence, demonstrating a common intention and malice aforethought. Despite being in Nairobi on the day of Sharon's death, Obado was implicated in the planning and facilitation of the murder, according to reports from Kenyans.co.ke.
Okoth Obado served as the Governor of Migori County from 2013 until his term ended in 2022. He was a prominent political figure known for his controversial governance and has been in the public eye due to various allegations, including corruption and now, murder. His conviction marks a significant moment in Kenyan politics, highlighting issues of accountability among public officials.
The murder of Sharon Otieno has been a highly publicized case in Kenya, sparking widespread outrage and discussions about gender-based violence and the treatment of women in society. Sharon's family was present in court to witness the verdict, underscoring the emotional weight of the case. The public and media have closely followed the proceedings, reflecting a growing demand for justice in similar cases.
