Ol Kalou MP-elect Travels by PSV Before Swearing-In

Sammy Douglas Kamau Ngotho, the newly elected Member of Parliament for Ol Kalou, has garnered attention for his humble approach to travel, opting for public transport to Nairobi ahead of his swearing-in ceremony.

Ngotho was spotted boarding a public service vehicle (PSV) as he made his way to the capital, a choice that has sparked positive conversations on social media, with many praising his display of humility and simplicity. His official swearing-in took place at 3:30 PM before National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula.

Sammy Douglas Kamau Ngotho, also known as Sammy Kamau Waweru, won the Ol Kalou parliamentary seat in a by-election held on July 16, 2026, where he secured 35,440 votes against his closest rival, Samuel Muchina Nyagah of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), who received 5,450 votes. Prior to this victory, Ngotho served as the first Member of the County Assembly (MCA) for Karau Ward, having been elected in 2013 on a TNA ticket.

This by-election was necessitated by the death of the previous MP, David Njuguna Kiaraho, in March 2026. Ngotho's win is particularly significant as it marks the first-ever seat for the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) in the National Assembly, highlighting a notable achievement for the party and its supporters.
