Sammy Kamau Ngotho Wins Ol Kalou By-Election
Sammy Kamau Ngotho, the candidate from the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), has emerged victorious in the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, securing a significant mandate from the electorate.
Following the announcement of his win, Ngotho expressed his gratitude to the residents of Ol Kalou for their overwhelming support, stating, 'I pledge to serve all residents regardless of their political affiliation.' This by-election was held on July 16, 2026, where Ngotho garnered 35,440 votes, decisively defeating his closest rival, Samuel Muchina Nyagah of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), who received only 5,450 votes, according to Citizen.
Sammy Kamau Ngotho is a well-known political figure in the region, having previously served as the first Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Karau Ward after being elected on a TNA/DP ticket in 2013. He later took on roles as a Protocol Officer and Political Advisor in the Office of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, which has helped elevate his profile in local politics.
The by-election was necessitated by the death of former MP David Njuguna Kiaraho in March 2026, a loss that left a significant gap in representation for the constituents. The election itself was marred by violence, with reports of armed attacks on residents and political supporters, leading to injuries and raising concerns about electoral security in the region, as noted by The Standard.
Ngotho's victory reflects a shift in the political landscape of Ol Kalou, as he aims to navigate the challenges posed by the recent violence and ensure a stable governance environment. His commitment to serving all constituents may be crucial in fostering unity and healing in a community that has recently faced turmoil.
