President Ruto Hosts King Charles III at State Banquet
On October 31, 2023, President William Ruto hosted King Charles III and Queen Camilla at a lavish State banquet at State House, Nairobi, where they were welcomed with traditional Maasai dances.
President Ruto expressed his honor in hosting the royal couple, a sentiment he shared during a meeting with British High Commissioner Neil Wigan just days prior to the visit. This banquet marks a significant diplomatic occasion, showcasing Kenya's cultural heritage and strengthening ties with the UK.
William Ruto, who became President in September 2022, has been focused on various initiatives, including the recent signing of four Universal Health Care Bills into law on October 19, aimed at enhancing health coverage across the country. His administration has been characterized by efforts to improve public services while navigating the complexities of Kenyan politics.
The banquet also saw the attendance of notable figures such as ODM leader Raila Odinga, who made his first appearance at State House since the 2022 elections. This gathering of political leaders underscores the ongoing dialogue and collaboration among different factions in Kenyan politics. Additionally, Martha Karua, leader of NARC-Kenya, has been vocal about advocating for Mount Kenya's interests within the Azimio coalition, indicating the dynamic political landscape as various leaders seek to assert their influence.
