Rigathi Gachagua Congratulates Sammy Waweru on Ol Kalou Win

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has congratulated Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru following his election as the new Member of Parliament for Ol Kalou Constituency.

In a statement after the declaration of results, Gachagua described the win as a historic milestone, saying it reflected the unmistakable voice of the people and marked the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP)’s first seat in the National Assembly. Waweru secured 35,440 votes, significantly ahead of his closest competitor, United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Samuel Muchina Nyaga, who received 5,450 votes, according to Citizen.

Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru is a rising political figure representing the DCP, which has been gaining traction in Kenyan politics. His victory in the by-election, held on July 16, 2026, follows the death of former Ol Kalou MP David Kiaraho in March 2026, creating the vacancy that Waweru has now filled.

Gachagua, a prominent leader of the DCP, emphasized the significance of this win for the party, which is still relatively new in the political landscape. He is scheduled to lead a thanksgiving tour across Ol Kalou Constituency to celebrate this achievement, further solidifying the party's presence in the region.
