Boniface Mwangi Celebrates DCP Victory in Ol Kalou By-Election

Activist Boniface Mwangi has hailed the outcome of the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election as a significant victory for democracy, following the announcement that Sammy Kamau Ngotho of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) emerged victorious.

In a recent social media post, Mwangi expressed his approval of the election results, stating that the residents of Ol Kalou rejected attempts to sway the vote through financial incentives, gifts, and intimidation. Instead, he emphasized that voters made their choice through the ballot, highlighting the importance of electoral integrity.

Boniface Mwangi is a well-known Kenyan activist and photojournalist, recognized for his advocacy on social justice issues and his vocal stance against corruption. He has been a prominent figure in various movements aimed at promoting democracy and accountability within the Kenyan political landscape.

The by-election was necessitated by the death of former MP David Kiaraho in March 2026. The contest was marred by violence, including attacks by armed men and the use of teargas at polling stations, which raised concerns about the electoral process. Despite these challenges, Ngotho secured 35,440 votes, marking a significant win for the DCP, whose leader, Rigathi Gachagua, expressed confidence in the party's growing influence in the region, especially in light of the recent political dynamics in Kenya.
