Ol Kalou Residents Turn Out for Parliamentary By-Election
Residents of Ol Kalou have shown strong enthusiasm for the upcoming parliamentary by-election, arriving at polling stations as early as 6 a.m. to cast their votes. Long queues formed before voting officially began, reflecting the community's eagerness to participate in this closely watched electoral exercise.
The by-election is scheduled for Thursday, July 16, 2026, following the death of the late MP David Njuguna Kiaraho on March 29, 2026. According to Capital FM, a total of 73,480 registered voters in Ol Kalou Constituency will cast their ballots across 144 polling stations.
Among the nine candidates cleared to contest the seat, the main contenders are Samuel Muchina Nyagah from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and Sammy Kamau Ngotho from the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP). This election is significant as it represents a political contest between President William Ruto's UDA and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's DCP, which has been a focal point in local political discussions.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has finalized preparations for the by-election, including verifying ballot papers, as reported by People Daily. The outcome of this election could potentially influence the political landscape in the region, particularly in the context of ongoing power dynamics within the Mt. Kenya region.
